The transition from one sport to another can typically be seen as simple, a lot of sports are similar but nobody has ever said that about basketball and horse racing.

But that’s where Chris Griffin is going after spending five years as the voice of the Harlem Globetrotters, he’ll become the “Voice of the Humboldt County Fair” which begins Friday in California.  Griffin takes over for Frank Mirahmadi who is now announcing at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

Griffin does have a history with racing, just with horsepower rather than horses.  Prior to joining the Globetrotters, Griffin announced with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) beginning in 2006.  This won’t be his first brush with horses as he grew up attending horse races in southern California and has worked numerous handicapping shows, and hosted a race show during the 2008 Breeders Cup at Santa Anita.

Six days of racing are on tap for the Humboldt Fair meet, with afternoon action on tap Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (Aug. 21-22-23 and Aug. 28-29-30).

Post time for the first race will be 2:07 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 3:07 p.m. both Fridays.
