The close is the last thing people will hear.  There are announcers that as soon as the game is over will just up and leave.  They won’t say anything, but after the game is over you still want to make sure you announce upcoming games, the web site that has the information for the team or tournament, and most importantly, thank people for coming.

This is also a chance to recognize the volunteers, staff, and other key components to the event.

“On behalf of the staff of the Beach City Dolphins, the County of Beach and the Beach Civic Arena, we’d like to thank you for coming to tonight’s game, and ask you to please drive home safely.  Thank you.”

This is a variant of the announcement we’ve been using for over 20 years which is below.

“On behalf of the entire staff and crew of the Beach City Dolphins, the County of Beach and the Beach Civic Arena, I’m Public Address Announcer Jarrod Wronski.  We’d like to thank you for coming out to tonight’s game, and we ask that you all please drive home safely.  Thank you.”

The closing is a personal and style thing that you can use to tailor to your own personality.  The main points that you want to hit are:

  • The staff from your team/school
  • The staff from your facility (if different from team/school)
  • Your name, this is the only time you should ever announce your name, you deserve the recognition for all the work you just did, and it is a personal comforting touch as the fans feel they “know” someone
  • Encourage safe commuting
  • Thank the fans for coming
