What that overshadowed was one of the greatest P. A. performances in major professional sports as Anthony had already announced the New York Islanders game yesterday afternoon with the Winnipeg Jets. Yes, that’s right, he announced two major professional sports on the same day.
Looks like Alex Anthony has a busy day. Doing some PA for the #Isles and then Mets playoffs later tonight. — Christian Arnold (@CA_NYHockey) October 12, 2015
We found, ironically, only two tweets when doing a search of “Alex Anthony” and “Isles” which can mean many inferences, most of which would be mean to post. However Anthony also announced a game at Barclays Center back in September as well.
The trek between the two takes about 25 minutes by car, according to Google Maps at 9:51 p.m., but that could be at pretty much any time. Or, Anthony could have caught the G train to the 7 with a little bit of a walk from the stadia to mass transit stops that would have taken just shy of an hour to arrive.
There are many opportunities this time of year to pull a doubleheader, it’s just rare in major professional sports because most teams don’t share announcers, and if they do, they’re all in the same facility. Some college announcers will have a soccer or field hockey game in the afternoon, with a volleyball match that same night, but you’re typically staying on campus. NHL and NBA teams share their arenas in many cities, but we don’t know of any who share the same P. A. announcer, though that would make some logistics easier for both teams.
To Alex Anthony, you get a standing ovation for your work today, and hopefully tomorrow, you get a chance to rest.
