The internet is a great place, and it allows people to connect in ways they couldn’t before.  Jeff K, the announcer for the Dallas Stars, in-stadium host for the Dallas Cowboys, and long-time Dallas-Fort Worth DJ took some time about three weeks ago to talk with Dallas Stars fans via Reddit for an ask me anything session.

There are some pretty good questions here and it gives you an idea of the man behind the mic, and also what it’s like to be behind the mic for an NHL team. One such question has been a hot topic around some NHL arenas in the time it takes to announce a goal after the ensuing faceoff.

User bcs758 asks, “Jeff, after visiting both the Pepsi and United center this year i have noticed that you and the Stars announce goals a whole lot later than these teams where the goal is announced immediately after the center ice faceoff. Is there a reason for this? I know a lot of goals takes some time to sort through who should get credited for the g and a’s. In addition i noticed you are a lot faster this year than last.”

However the question went unanswered but it can be due to several in-game factors that we won’t speculate on because we’re not on the game ops crew in Dallas!

There are also some pretty off-the-wall questions such as StephasaurusRexy’s, “Because it’s reddit tradition, would you rather fight a horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?”

Jeff’s response, “hmmmmm prolly the horse sized duck, only one to have to focus on.. with my eye sight that’s all I could handle”.
