This week, the Green Bay Packers have a bye week, a good chance for Andy Thompson to get some rest for the rest of the season at Lambeau Field.  Thompson’s name may not be as well known as Favre, Rodgers, or Starr, and he’s never played a down on the field, but he’s been there for 11 years to assist P. A. announcer Bill Jartz as his spotter.

Thompson’s first-person piece in the Stevens Point Journal gives a good insight into what it’s like to be a spotter.  Every August there are announcers from all levels who ask if they should have a spotter, the answer is yes, it’s always good to have help.
