It’s been awhile since we posted a new music review and this one is focused on newer music that you can incorporate into your game production. This is some newer stuff that’s giving hope that the music industry is ready to deliver more music that can be used in important situations. There are also a couple of older songs in here that you may not have heard.
24K Magic – Bruno Mars
It’s new and it’s going to be another hit from Bruno. A little editing at the beginning to get it to it’s more upbeat start and you can instantly use this in-game. Keep in mind, the unedited version does contain four words that need to be edited
Perfect Illusion – Lady Gaga
Her partnership with Tony Bennett has shown her chops, and now she returns with a song that doesn’t have an instant grab at the start but can be edited to play in-game. At 125 bpm it’s one of the fastest songs to come out in quite some time. It’s possible that some could use this for situational use.
Freaks – Timmy Trumpet featuring Savage
This song has been out for a while now but it’s kind of been hidden. An instrumental version from Promo Only is available and can be used as a nice bed, or the song itself can be used for rally and upbeat situations.
A. I. featuring Peter Gabriel – OneRepublic
OneRepublic has given us some good walk-in songs in the past and this fits right in. It has a good, toe-tapping beat that can be used to fill extended periods of time.
Still Breathing – Green Day
They’ve given us quite a few game-situation songs over the years, this one can be worked for walk-in. Can also see teams using this for walk-out after a loss.
Little Bit of This – GTA featuring Vince Staples
This song needs a lot of editing or finding a radio/clean version might help. The song has a fun, upbeat vibe however the overuse of obscenities makes it one that could be discounted.
Going Up (Radio Edit) – Deorro
It’s not a hard-hitting song, but it has a nice pace to it. Could be used as a filler between periods with the downtempo feel and upbeat dance mix. This isn’t going to replace a powerplay song, but might be good to have available.
Warmup – NF
This song has a spooky sound that will most likely make its way to NBA and college basketball games as an intro video into a baseline for the starting line-ups. Could also hear this during basketball and football warm-ups.
The Other Side – Alter Bridge
Speaking of warm-up, here is a good one for hockey that can also be used as an in-game song for stoppages when you want something that rocks. At just under six minutes, this song will take up a good chunk of warm-up.
False Alarm – The Weeknd
This could be used in several situations and will be added to our playlists once we figure out where to put it. Loop the chorus for false starts in football, bad faceoffs or anytime play is stopped almost immediately for one reason or another. In sports with reviews that had a big play overturned, this could be a nice fit.
