There are times when strange things happen in the sports world, and when you’re part of it, you go with the flow and look back later to reflect on what just happened.

There have been times during my career in which I’ve done things that just defied common sense.  Like announcing 32 inline hockey games in one day.  That’s 16 going simultaneously on two rinks.  Or that I announced for 16-plus hours doing that!  Or that I announced 42 ice hockey games in six days, and slept for two days after.

Twice, I’ve had the opportunity to announce a hockey game started on one rink, and finished on another.  Both times, issues with the boards necessitated the move from one sheet to the other, but you just go with it when it happens, have a little fun with the restart, and then laugh after it’s over.

A blown transformer in Spokane, Washington, however, caused an entire football game to be moved from one stadium to the other, and the visiting team becoming the home team.

The Spokesman-Review: Blown transformer causes East Valley-West Valley game to switch fields

It’s unique when it happens, and in this case the transformer caused everyone, from players, cheerleaders, fans, and game staff, to travel eight miles and set back up after the game had already begun.  This is an excellent case of schools putting a rivalry aside for the betterment of the game and the players involved.  Kudos to East Valley and West Valley.
