The two schools share the stadium and pressbox in Harlingen, Texas and are gearing up for another season and while Harlingen and Harlingen South share a lot of the same crews, they have their own P. A. Announcers gracing the sound system at J. Lewis Boggus Stadium.

Jay Cantu is the P. A. announcer and audio director for Harlingen South games while Gil Tello is the voice for Harlingen High.  They share the pressbox with Tom Bald (scoreboard operator), Donald Lantz (video board graphics operator), Andrew Cordero (spotter and assistant PA announcer), Ramiro Trevino (secondary spotter) and Javier Ariza (40-second clock operator).

Tello will begin his fifth season and had been, like the rest of the pressbox crew, a two-schooler up until last year.  He had begun broadcasting games when Coach Randy Cretors asked him to get behind the P. A. microphone.  He jumped at it because his entire family had been part of the football program at some point.

Cantu had experience behind the mic as he’d been a morning radio show host for 10 years and has enjoyed seeing how everything has evolved over the years.
